Lisa Smith charged with being member of terror group ISIS and refused bail

Lisa Smith has been charged with being a member of terrorist organisation ISIS.

The 38-year-old Co Louth woman appeared in court dressed in a black burqa initially exposing her face, but covered up when proceedings began.

She appeared in Court Number 4 at the Criminal Courts of Justice at 12.13pm this afternoon.

The mother of one is denying the charge and made no reply when charged.

The court heard Ms Smith was suicidal and depressed when she converted to Islam in 2011.

A bail application was denied by Judge Colin Daly and Ms Smith is due to appear in court again on December 11.

She was rejected bail on a number of grounds including being a possible flight risk.

She will be remanded in custody in the Dochas Women’s Centre.

Ms Smith’s legal team have requested that Ms Smith should be separated from the rest of the prison population for security reasons.

Justice Daly said he would make a recommendation but that would be a decision for the Governor of the prison.
