Lisa Simpson voice actor slams Mike Pompeo for SOTU tweet: 'F*** you for co-opting my character'

The actor who voices Lisa Simpson has slammed Mike Pompeo after the secretary of state shared an image of her character in an apparent jab at Nancy Pelosi.

Yeardley Smith spoke out on Twitter after Pompeo posted a Simpsons still of Lisa tearfully shredding a piece of paper.

His tweet appeared to be a reference to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who was filmed tearing a copy of Donald Trump’s State of the Union speech after the address on Tuesday.

Representative Bill Pascrell Jr pointed out on Twitter that the image in question comes from the season three episode “Mr Lisa Goes to Washington”, in which Lisa is confronted by a corruption scandal in the House of Representatives.

“In this episode Lisa loses her faith in democracy after seeing a corrupt politician selling out American values and liberty. Like your boss,” Pascrell told Pompeo. He then mentioned Smith, adding: “@YeardleySmith can probably explain better than I can.”

Smith quoted Pascrell’s tweet and replied: “That’s pretty good! I might just add f*** you @mikepompeo for co-opting my character to troll @SpeakerPelosi. Be a leader and fight you own fight! Oh, wait I forgot, you’re a follower.”

Former Simpsons writer and showrunner Bill Oakley previously criticised Pompeo’s tweet too, telling him: “Mr Secretary of State please do not ever ever ever use Simpsons material in your Twitter or watch the show or refer to it in any way.”

Pelosi referred to the president’s speech on Tuesday night as a “manifesto of mistruths”.

It was later reported that the ripping of Mr Trump’s speech was not planned.
