Aug. 21--The Squared Circle will hold a "Rowdy" Roddy Piper tribute costume contest in honor of the late WWE legend during its Summer Slam watch party Sunday. Co-owner Lisa Marie Varon and fellow former WWE Diva Torrie Wilson will judge the contest, via Skype, and determine who walks away with the $250 grand prize.
"We are going in with an open mind," Varon said Wednesday by email. "Wrestling fans are creative. Maybe it's just clothing. But with a cash prize on the line, we hope to be wowed in some way. We'll know it when we see it. Hot Rod was a special guy. There is a lot of work to choose from."
Piper passed away July 31 due to a heart attack caused by a blood clot in one of his lungs, according to TMZ. He was 61 years old.
Summer Slam is considered the biggest WWE Pay Per View of the year behind only Wrestlemania (personally, I like the Royal Rumble the best), which is why Varon recommends guests arrive early if they want a seat at The Squared Circle. John Cena will take on WWE Champion Seth Rollins in the main event, but perhaps the most anticipated match is the rematch between Brock Lesnar and The Undertaker.
Varon announced in January that she had moved to California and would no longer run the restaurant, which she opened with her husband Lee Varon in 2013. Does her participation in Sunday's watch party mean she's back to helping run the restaurant from afar?
"Yes," Varon said. "Absolutely."
