Lisa Dorrian murder investigation prompts underwater searches in Ballyhalbert

Police search teams have gathered in Co Down to search for the body of Bangor woman Lisa Dorrian, who was murdered in 2005.

Lisa, who was 25 years old, was last seen alive 16 years ago in Ballyhalbert Caravan Park, Co Down on February 27 and despite extensive searches of the area, she has not yet been returned to her family.

The latest search is to concentrate on the Clay Pits off High Street in the seaside village of Ballyhalbert, just a few minutes' drive away.

Her sister Joanne, said: "We suffer with mixed emotions when we are told a search is to take place, a mixture of hope and anxiety. We are very clear that the PSNI are confident in this investigation.

"Detective Superintendent Jason Murphy from the PSNI’s Major Investigation Team, is leading this case and he has been a great source of support and comfort to us because we know how determined he is to bring Lisa home to us and to deliver justice.

"We will be at the search site on Tuesday morning to urge anyone with any information, no matter how irrelevant it seems, to come forward. We need to bring Lisa home."

As the Dorrian family marked the latest anniversary of their loss in February, Joanne, said they has new-found confidence in the PSNI’s burgeoning investigation and they are hopeful family will have a grave to visit before Lisa’s 17th anniversary.

The PSNI drive for justice took on new momentum under Detective Superintendent Jason Murphy from the Major Investigation Team, and he has already sent a firm message to Lisa’s killer, saying: “The net is tightening.”

And he has confirmed police are “confident” of recovering Lisa and getting justice for her still grieving family.

Joanne said: “We’ve never felt more encouraged than we do now, and we’re very grateful for the continued focus by the PSNI team on Lisa."

Anyone with information should call detectives on 101 or speak to Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
