Lisa Cannon says former Xpose presenters will thrive if given new roles after shock axing

Lisa Cannon reckons her former Xpose presenters will be given other roles at the station in the wake of the shock axing.

The bubbly presenter admitted with the flagship entertainment show gone, the time is ripe for her show Box Office to land more A-list interviews.

Lisa, 39, told the Irish Mirror: “The girls will be absolutely fine, I know they’ll be staying where they are for now.

“Change is also welcome for people, when you’ve been working on something for so many years, new challenges are always a foot and I think that’s important too.

“They’ve loads of lovely stuff lined up, they’re brilliant broadcasters, they’re going to knock it out of the ball park, whatever the next gig is going to be.”

Lamenting the loss of Xpose to the station she said: “Everybody’s sad that it’s gone, it’s the end of an era for all of us.

“I interviewed Beyonce in New York City for her perfume launch, I did red carpets in Rome at Roberto Cavalli’s mansion.

“I did the Oscars and stepped on Sandra Bullock’s dress at the Golden Globes and was able to tell her that while I interviewed her the next time.

“I interviewed Cameron Diaz five times so much so she would say to me hello Irish every time I met her.

“I met my idols the Rolling Stones, one of my highlights of my whole ten years on the show.”

The Dublin beauty is back on Virgin Media Two tonight with series five of the hit movie show and admitted Xpose getting the chop, means her show needs to include more entertainment.

She said: “That’s just the natural way of things, in terms of entertainment through default, Box Office will be an entertainment show in regards to all the movies, all the reviews, all the interviews, all the TV, red carpets and set features, that’s all going to come from us now.”

Lisa worked on RTE’s Nationwide before securing the coveted Xpose gig in 2007: “It was the starting point of my career, the Willy Wonka ticket to start on a prime time Daily television show.”

After a decade on the hit show she got moved to cover Anna Daly’s maternity leave on Weekend AM before landing her own Box Office show.

Film buff Lisa opened up on the fickle world of showbiz saying: “You have to be on your twinkle toes when it comes to TV because nothing is ever guaranteed.

“That is part of the job and I think everybody in TV has to accept that and across all media it’s the same and always has been.

“It’s very rare that shows last a very long time, unless it’s something like Nationwide or Ireland Am but it’s not always a given.”
