Lions work out preseason sack artist Nate Orchard

The latest name to pass through Allen Park on the free agent workout circuit is one fans of the NFL preseason likely know well. Nate Orchard, a veteran defensive end/outside linebacker, worked out with the Lions on Thursday per Ian Rapoport of NFL.com and verified by team sources.

Orchard finished the preseason with four sacks and six QB hits while playing for the Miami Dolphins. The veteran was a surprising cut from Miami.

A second-round pick out of Utah by the Cleveland Browns back in 2015, Orchard was a starter as a rookie. His career star has since faded, bouncing from the Chiefs to the Bills in 2018 after being cut by the Browns. He has five career sacks in 38 games. Orchard also had a memorable TD against the Lions in the 2018 preseason while with the Browns.

The Lions did not immediately sign Orchard after Thursday’s workout.
