Lions work out Penn State long snapper Kyle Vasey

Long snappers are people too. The Lions even took the somewhat unusual step of bringing a long snapper in for a pre-draft workout.

That would be Penn State’s Kyle Vasey. According to a report from Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle, Vasey had a private workout for the Lions this week.

The team already has Pro Bowler Don Muhlbach at the position. Though Muhlbach is now 37 and entering his 16th season, he remains one of the very best at his craft.

In Bob Quinn’s first draft as Lions GM, he pulled the trigger in the sixth round on Jimmy Landes as a direct challenger to the grizzled veteran. Muhlbach handily beat him out even before Landes was sent packing with an injury.
