The Detroit Lions won’t be on “Hard Knocks” in the fall of 2019, as the NFL has announced that HBO has selected the Oakland Raiders for their training camp documentary series.
Rumors had recently swirled around social media that the Lions were going to be HBO’s choice for the upcoming season, despite coach Matt Patricia insisting that the team had not heard either way.
HBO finally made its decision and in hindsight, it should’ve been an easy one from the beginning of the process as the Raiders are chock-full of personalities that are sure to make for some exciting television.
Raiders coach Jon Gruden is no stranger to television after a significant stint in the “Monday Night Football” booth and should feel very comfortable taking center stage. General manager Mike Mayock isn’t the spark plug Gruden is but he is also well versed in television after a long career at the NFL Network.
The locker room is also full of entertaining personalities as well, where guys like Antonio Brown, Vontaze Burfict, Richie Incognito, as well as first-round rookies Clelin Ferrell, Josh Jacobs and Johnathan Abram are sure to grab the camera’s attention.
There will also be former Lions with a chance to be featured on the show, including Luke Willson, Nevin Lawson, Tahir Whitehead, Alex Barrett and Gabe Wright.
In addition to Brown (Central Michigan), there will also be several other local names fans may be familiar with like Maurice Hurst (Michigan), Jonathan Hankins (Dearborn Heights) and Maxx Crosby (Eastern Michigan) who could also see some air time.
