Lions want to nominate the Raiders for ‘Hard Knocks’ because every team hates it

The Detroit Lions had another forgettable season in 2018, the first under new head coach Matt Patricia.

Not only did the team go 6-10 and miss out on the postseason again, but now they find themselves in the unenviable position of being one of five teams up for the new season of “Hard Knocks” on HBO, the docuseries that follows around an NFL team during training camp and the preseason. A popular show among fans, but one teams and coaches hope to avoid.

Which is why it shouldn’t come as a surprise that Patricia wants to nominate the Oakland Raiders for the new season, instead of his Lions.

via ESPN.

“I think Jon Gruden is an excellent choice for that show… I think the Oakland Raiders and everything they’ve got going on right now would be fantastic viewing for everybody to watch.”

One thing that fans may not have known about “Hard Knocks” was the competitive advantage it gives opponents. Lions general manager Bob Quinn said in the article that if the Lions are playing the “Hard Knocks” team that season, coaches and scouts will watch the episodes to try and figure out the team’s schemes. Another reason why people want to avoid being on the show.

It remains to be seen whether Detroit will be selected, but it should make them happy to know that nobody wants to watch them… ever.
