The British and Irish Lions are celebrating taking a 1-0 lead in their eagerly anticipated three-match series against South Africa.
Warren Gatland’s touring side produced an excellent second-half performance to triumph 22-17 in a dramatic First Test showdown in Cape Town on Saturday evening.
Wales fly-half Dan Biggar kicked 14 of those points as the Lions recovered from a disappointing first period and 12-3 half-time deficit to take down the formidable Springboks, who were playing just their second Test since winning the 2019 World Cup Final against England in Japan.
Luke Cowan-Dickie’s try started the comeback, while South Africa saw Willie le Roux’s score contentiously chalked off before Faf de Klerk had the hosts briefly back in the ascendancy.
However, their ill-discipline proved costly in the end as two more Biggar penalties - plus a late effort from replacement Owen Farrell - saw the Lions home after Damian de Allende also saw a try ruled out for a knock-on.
