Lions tour of South Africa thrown into further chaos as Bulls clash in 'severe doubt' after positive Covid tests

The British and Irish Lions' clash with the Vodacom Bulls this weekend is reportedly in 'severe doubt' after several members of the provincial side tested positive for Covid-19.

According to Supersport.com, several Bulls stars are now in isolation after turning in positive tests, along with one other player, who was in close contact.

The developments come as the Bulls were about to enter their five-day bio bubble on Monday night, and could have big implications on a tour that has already been hugely affected by the ongoing pandemic.

Should the game - which is due to take place in Pretoria, an area badly affected by the virus - be cancelled, it is unlikely that that an alternative date will be found with the tourists on such a tight schedule.

The final decision will lie with the local Medical Advisory Committee (MAG), which will comprise of medical experts from both the Lions and Springboks, as well as chief executives from both sides.

The MAG are reportedly still trying to find a way forward after South Africa's Monday training session was cancelled due to Lood de Jager turning in a positive test.

It's the second time in 10 days south Africa have had to cancel training due to a Covid scare.

De Jager was alleged to have been in close contact with several other members of the team and the entire squad was placed in isolation.

The development has thrown South Africa's second Test against Georgia, which is due to take place on Friday, into significant doubt.

More clarity on both situations is expected to come later today but if neither the Bulls nor the Springboks are able to play, then the possibility of the Lions facing Georgia will likely be raised.
