Lions star Kyle Sinckler cited for biting as several players escape punishment

Lions star Kyle Sinckler has been cited for biting during their second Test defeat to South Africa on Saturday - but no other players will face disciplinary action.

It was expected that Stuart Hogg, Maro Itoje, Cheslin Kolbe and Faf de Klerk could all be cited for different incidents in a contentious match in Cape Town on Saturday night.

However, quite remarkably, it's just replacement prop Sinckler who will face a disciplinary hearing.

Sinckler was alleged to have bitten Franco Mostert during a ruck in the second-half, although the incident has not received anywhere near as much scrutiny on social media as those involving the players above.

A statement from World Rugby read: "British and Irish Lions player Kyle Sinckler will attend an independent disciplinary hearing after he was cited by Scott Nowland (Australia) for an act of foul play contrary to Law 9.12 (biting) in the second test against South Africa in Cape Town on 31 July, 2021.

"Sinckler will attend a hearing via video conference before an independent Judicial Committee chaired by Adam Casselden SC (Australia), joined by former international players David Croft and John Langford (both Australia) on 3 August.

"Following a full review of the match, there are no additional citings."
