Lions sign WR Chris Lacy to practice squad, released RB Nick Brosette

The Detroit Lions announced they have signed wide receiver Chris Lacy to practice squad and released running back Nick Brossette in a corresponding move.

“Lacy returns to Detroit after a previous stint on the Lions active roster earlier this season,” the Lions said in a press release. “Lacy has appeared in three career games for the Lions. He originally entered the League with the New England Patriots, who signed him as an undrafted rookie free agent out of Oklahoma State following the 2018 NFL Draft.”

Lacy made the 53-man roster following a terrific offseason that was only slowed by a Spring injury. He returned and looked sharp in the preseason, stepping into the fourth wide receiver role after Jermaine Kearse was placed on injured reserve.

In addition to Lacy, the Lions kept sixth-round draft pick Travis Fulgham on the active roster. When coaches decided to make a change at wide receiver and promote Marvin Hall to the active roster, it was at the expense of Lacy — with the team opting to keep Fulgham as an upside player.

Despite the Lions’ preference to develop Fulgham, Lacy has shown too much promise to stay unemployed, thus the Lions opting to bring him back to the practice squad.

Brossette was a casualty of practice squad roster space, and it’s possible he returns for the third time sometime in the future.
