Lions sign Will Harris, entire 2019 draft class now under contract

The Detroit Lions announced that they have signed third-round pick safety Will Harris and now their entire 2019 draft class is under contract on the eve of mandatory minicamp.

Under the current collective bargaining agreement (CBA) third-round picks have the most wiggle room in their rookie contracts, so it’s no surprise it took Harris longer than the rest of the class to reach an agreement with the Lions.

Not only is the Lions entire draft class now under contract, but it also means all 90-players on the current roster will have reached deals ahead of tomorrow’s minicamp.

Throughout the first two weeks of organized team activities (OTAs) Harris has split reps on the second team with Tavon Wilson, with both of them alternating between slot safety roles in three safety sets.

Both Harris and Wilson look to be competing for the Lions third safety role, behind starters Quandre Diggs and Tracy Walker, and this is sure to be a heated battle through training camp and long into the preseason. Wilson has the scheme and NFL experience, while Harris has youth and athleticism on his side. This should be one of the more entertaining camp battles to watch this fall.
