Lions sign restricted free agent RB Malcolm Brown to an offer sheet

Apparently Malcolm Brown made a positive impression on his visit to Allen Park last week. The Lions thought highly enough of the free agent running back to sign him to an offer sheet.

However, Brown is not a Detroit Lion just yet. He’s a restricted free agent, tendered by the Los Angeles Rams. The Rams used an original-round tender on Brown, their primary backup to Todd Gurley before he wound up on injured reserve (collarbone) in December. Because he was an undrafted free agent from Texas, the Rams would not receive any compensation from the Lions if he leaves L.A.

The Rams have five days to match the contract offer. They cannot make a higher offer. Brown, 25, averaged an impressive 4.9 yards per carry on 43 totes in 2018, his fourth NFL season.
