The Detroit Lions announced they have signed running back Paul Perkins to the practice squad and waived running back Wes Hills in a corresponding move.
Perkins, a one-time starter for the New York Giants, was running fourth on the Lions running back depth chart and was never active on game days during his time on the Lions active roster.
While the Lions like Perkins’ potential, they likely weren’t seeing enough in practice because when Tra Carson became available the Lions claimed him off of waivers and gave him Perkins spot on the 53-man roster.
The Lions obviously hold Perkins in high regard after claiming him off of waivers last month, but he’ll need to prove himself on the practice squad first before he will be recalled to the active roster.
