Lions sign RB Nick Brossette to practice squad, release RB David Williams

The Detroit Lions announced that they have signed running back Nick Brossette to practice squad and released running back David Williams in a corresponding move.

“Brossette joins the Lions after spending the preseason with the New England Patriots,” the Lions said in a press release, “who signed him as an undrafted rookie free agent out of LSU following the 2019 NFL Draft.”

Brossette lacks lateral athleticism and straight-line speed, but he is a North-South runner who has solid explosion and sure hands, making him a very capable of contributing in short-yardage and third-down situations. He runs to contact and delivers the proper blows to wear down defenses.

Williams was only on the Lions roster for one day before being waived in favor of Brossette.
