Lions sign RB C.J. Anderson

Earlier this offseason, we wrote that the bulky C.J. Anderson could be a fit with the Minnesota Vikings.

He’ll be joining the NFC North, but it won’t be with the Vikings.

On Monday, the running back signed with the Detroit Lions.

Anderson emerged as a dangerous back last season with the Rams after being released by the Panthers.

After Latavius Murray’s signing with the Saints, the Vikings don’t have a clear backup for Dalvin Cook, although they did re-sign former Lions running back Ameer Abdullah.

I’d expect the Vikings to address running back in the draft. The free-agent class is a little thin and the Vikings don’t have much money to spend.

That pick will likely compete with Abdullah, Mike Boone and Roc Thomas (depending on his legal situation) for the backup spot.
