Lions sign LB Juwon Young, release LB Tre’ Williams

The Detroit Lions have announced that they have signed off-the-ball/JACK linebacker Juwon Young and released linebacker Tre’ Williams in a corresponding move.

“Young comes to Detroit after splitting his college career at Marshall University (2017-18) and the University of Miami (Fla.), where he played from 2014-15,” the Lions said in a press release. “He finished his senior season at Marshall with 41 tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks.”

The Lions met with Young (6-2, 243) when they visited Marshall’s pro day and he earned himself a tryout both with the Seattle Seahawks and the Lions. He played both defensive end and MIKE linebacker during his collegiate career and that type of positional range likely played a factor in the Lions offering him a contract.
