Lions sign former Dolphins QB David Fales

Slowly but surely, the 2018 Miami Dolphins quarterback room is finding a market. First, Ryan Tannehill became trade bait and was moved during the month of March — he’ll serve as the primary backup to Marcus Mariota this season in Tennessee. The wait has been much longer for Miami’s other two quarterbacks from last season, David Fales and Brock Osweiler.

But Fales is officially off the market! Fales agreed to terms and has signed with the Detroit Lions, where he will compete with Tom Savage to be the backup to veteran Matt Stafford.

Fales started his career in the NFC North with the Chicago Bears, where he was a 6th-round selection in 2014. But Fales never found traction with the team and ultimately came to Miami in an effort to resuscitate his career. His peak with the Dolphins came in 2017, when he threw 43 pass attempts and threw his first career touchdown against the Buffalo Bills.

The Lions cut former Michigan State quarterback Connor Cook to make room for Fales on the roster, who will now look to win the backup job despite coming into Detroit’s offseason program late.

The details of Fales’ contract with the Lions have not yet been released.
