Lions select RB/KR Jason Huntley with the 172nd pick in the fifth round

With pick No. 172 of the 2020 NFL Draft, the 20th pick in the fifth round, the Lions select New Mexico State running back/kick returner Jason Huntley.

Huntley (5-8.5, 182 pounds) was a high school track star and his speed immediately translated onto the field as a kick returner. Over his four years in the role (59 attempts), he has scored five touchdowns and averaged 25.8 yards per attempt.

The Lions start taking fliers on high upside players in the fifth round and if Huntley can bring his college success to the NFL, there should be a solid camp competition between him and Jamal Agnew on special teams.

As a running back, he looks like a passing option who can also has plays schemed for him — similar to what they have down with Agenw in the past — but any more contributions they get out of him on offense has to be considered a bonus.

The Lions have the following picks remaining:

Round 6 pick 20 197 overall
Round 7 pick 21 235 overall
