Lions reportedly agree to terms with Steelers TE Jesse James

It appears the Detroit Lions have addressed their hole at tight end in a busy free agency day.

NFL Network's Mike Garafolo reports that the Lions have agreed to sign former Pittsburgh Steelers tight end Jesse James.

The 24-year-old was a 2015 fifth-round draft pick out of Penn State by the Steelers. James had 30 catches for 423 yards and two touchdowns last season.

James was at the crux of a replay controversy back in 2017, when he appeared to make the game-winning touchdown catch against the Patriots in a late-season game. But according to the rules at the time, James didn't maintain possession of the ball after hitting the ground and the pass was ruled incomplete.

The NFL changed the rule on receptions the following year.

In four seasons, all with Pittsburgh, the 6-foot-7 tight end has 120 catches for 1,189 yards and nine touchdowns.

The Lions also signed wide receiver Danny Amendola on Monday, and reportedly agreed to terms with defensive end Trey Flowers and slot cornerback Justin Coleman.
