The Detroit Lions announced the release of three players on Friday. Most notable of the trio is longtime starting safety Glover Quin.
Quin started every game for the Lions in his six seasons in Detroit after signing as a free agent. He led the NFL in interceptions back in 2014 and has consistently been one of the league’s better all-around safeties.
The move is not unexpected. Quin toyed with the idea of retiring last offseason and ceded playing time to rookie Tracy Walker as the 2018 season progressed. He turned 33 last month.
Also released were wideout Bruce Ellington and linebacker Nicholas Grigsby.
