Lions receiving phone calls about Darius Slay, it’ll ‘take a lot’ to acquire him

ESPN’s Adam Schefter is reporting that the Detroit Lions are receiving phone calls about Darius Slay, as teams look to acquire talent at the trade deadline. This matches up with information we at Lions Wire have been told behind the scenes in Allen Park.

This should come as no surprise.

Slay held out of the Lions offseason training programs, even absorbing fines, as he is looking to renegotiate his contract. The Lions and Slay never reached a contract solution and eventually Slay returned during training camp.

Now this week, Slay’s good friend and locker mate Quandre Diggs was traded to Seattle and Slay sounded off about his displeasure with the move.

In the locker room on Thursday, Slay was asked is he was worried about the possibility of being dealt and he responded, “(Expletive) no. That’s the last thing I’m worried about. I don’t give a damn, honestly. I don’t. So like I said, I just work. Doesn’t matter where I’m at. If I’m here, if I’m somewhere else. I just go to work.”

Slay is understandably upset and when other teams hear interviews like Slay gave on Thursday, it’s no surprise teams are inquiring. Now, that doesn’t mean the Lions are doing anything more than just listening at this point, but as Schefter pointed out in his Tweet, if a team offered the moon, the Lions could be enticed.

But “it would take a lot”.
