Lions re-sign RB Paul Perkins to the practice squad, waive OL Casey Tucker

The Detroit Lions announced they have re-signed running back Paul Perkins to the practice squad and waived offensive lineman Casey Tucker in a corresponding move. If you listened to this week’s episode of the Detroit Lions Breakdown Podcast: Episode 126 Raiders Week 9 preview you were prepared for this move.

With Kerryon Johnson on injured reserve, the Lions only had three running backs on the active roster. And after Thursday’s injury report revealed that Tra Carson injured his hamstring, the Lions were left with only two healthy running backs on their 53-man roster — Ty Johnson and J.D. McKissic.

With Perkins re-added to the team, he and fellow practice squader Wes Hills will give the Lions some potential depth options if Carson is unable to go on Sunday. The chances are Perkins would be the player promoted based on his experience and familiarity with the scheme, but Hills could be a sleeper based on his upside.

Bottom line, the Lions added Perkins as their fourth running back to give them depth at the position, which at this time was a bigger need than what Tucker brought to the table as the 11th offensive lineman.
