Lions re-sign RB Nick Brossette to practice squad, release DE Jonathan Wynn

The Detroit Lions’ practice squad carousel continues to rotate.

Six days ago, running back Nick Brossette was signed to the Lions practice squad. 24 hours later he was released to make room for EDGE Eric Lee.

Today, the Lions announced they have re-signed Brossette to practice squad and released defensive end Jonathan Wynn in a corresponding move.

As we mentioned last week, Brossette is a straight line runner without long speed. He has solid hands and is good in pass protection making him capable of contributing on third-downs, but his real value falls in short-yardage situations where he can utilize his power.

The Lions may be in the market for a power back after electing to release veteran running back C.J. Anderson last night, but his active roster replacement, Paul Perkins, can also fill that void.

Because the Lions claimed Perkins off of waivers he must stay on their active roster for three weeks, but if he struggles, Broussette could be a replacement option if he shows well during that time.

Then again, based on how the carousel operates, Brossette may not want to unpack his bags too quickly either.
