Lions QB Matthew Stafford on track to return to team against the Vikings

The Detroit Lions received quite a scare when the team had to place Matthew Stafford on the Reserve/COVID list Wednesday.

However, Stafford, after reportedly testing negative in his latest COVID-19 test, is on track to return to the field against Minnesota. Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press first reported that Kelly Stafford — Matthew’s wife — wrote in an Instagram story Thursday that all coronavirus tests “came back negative” for her and her family.

As reported by Adam Schefter of ESPN, Stafford is eligible to come off Reserve/COVID-19 list Sunday and play against the Vikings, assuming he continues to have negative tests.

Birkett also reported that Lions coach Matt Patricia declined to acknowledge the possibility of Stafford playing, saying that “just commenting on (Stafford’s) availability for the game would fall under the category of commenting on his health status.”

If Stafford isn’t ready to go, expect Chase Daniel to be the starting quarterback for Detroit.
