Lions QB Matthew Stafford expected to be game-time decision vs. Bears

It’s usually no surprise when some veteran quarterbacks appear on their team’s injury report, especially those that have been in the NFL for awhile.

That was the assumption for Detroit Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford, who was a limited participant all week during practice with hip and back injuries.

But according to NFL Insider Ian Rapoport, there is a legitimate concern about Stafford’s status for Sunday’s game against the Chicago Bears.

If Stafford can’t go, that would help the Bears out immensely.

Stafford has been having his best season in Detroit this season, where he’s thrown for 2,499 yards with 19 touchdowns, five interceptions and a 106.0 passer rating, which ranks fifth in the NFL.

If Stafford doesn’t play, the Bears will face Lions backup quarterback Jeff Driskel, who Detroit brought in during September.

Driskel, a 2016 sixth-round pick out of Louisiana Tech that was drafted by the San Francisco 49ers, was with the Cincinnati Bengals for a few seasons before he was waived in September.
