Lions Preseason Week 1 Player of the Game: RB Ty Johnson

It wasn’t easy to find someone worthy of Player of the Game honors after the Detroit Lions were thrashed, 31-3, in their preseason opener by the defending Super Bowl champion New England Patriots.

Still, we had to choose someone and rookie running back Ty Johnson provided some of the only Lions highlights in a game where the Patriots’ offense out-gained Detroit’s by over 350 yards (459 to just 93 total yards).

Johnson had two highlight-worthy runs, finishing the game with 22 rushing yards on three carries. During his first run, he showed vision in finding the hole on the right and accelerating once he had a lane.

It was a pretty good start for the speedy rookie out of Maryland.
