Lions place 3 players on PUP list to start training camp, Jameson Williams on non-football injury list

Detroit’s medical staff has been busy greeting Lions players reporting for training camp. Not every player will be ready to roll when camp opens this week.

The Lions placed three players on the physically unable to perform list, or PUP. It’s a designation that keeps them off the practice field temporarily. DE Romeo Okwara, CB Jerry Jacobs and rookie DL Josh Paschal are on PUP to start the preseason. all three are coming off leg injuries last year, including Paschal’s season-ender he suffered while at Kentucky.

Two others were placed on the non-football injury list, or NFI. The biggest name on the list is first-round wide receiver Jameson Williams. His NFI presence was expected after head coach Dan Campbell told reporters last month that he did not expect Williams to be ready for training camp as he rehabilitates from ACL surgery in January.

Williams is joined on the NFI list by linebacker Natrez Patrick, who was signed in the offseason.

All were designated as active status so that they can be activated right away. The training camp PUP list is different from the regular season designation; players on PUP in training camp could be there for as little as one day. In the regular season, it means a player is out for a minimum of four games.
