Lions part ways with pro scouting director Brendan Prophett

It’s an odd time to move on from the director of pro scouting, what with free agency still going on, but the Detroit Lions have done just that. The team has parted ways with Brendan Prophett, according to MLive.

Prophett has been with the Lions since 2016, coming to the organization as Bob Quinn’s first wave of hires as the team’s GM. He previously worked for the New Orleans Saints and the New York Jets, where he was that franchise’s director of pro personnel for nearly a decade.

The job for the director of pro scouting is primarily evaluating talent on both the Lions and other NFL teams, notably free agents and younger players on opposing practice squads. The poor success rate of the free agent class of 2018, which included busts LeGarrette Blount, Kenny Wiggins, Sylvester Williams, Luke Willson and Matt Cassel, did not reflect well upon Prophett. However, the late timing of the termination is still odd.

No immediate replacement has been announced.
