Numerous reports from the last week have indicated the Lions were set to sign free agent running back C.J. Anderson.
The reports came true on Friday. The Lions officially announced they have signed Anderson to a contract. Terms were not disclosed, but the reports of a one-year deal have not been refuted by either party.
Anderson spent 2018 with three different teams, including the Los Angeles Rams. He played as Todd Gurley’s primary backup during the Rams’ playoff run to the Super Bowl. The 28-year-old will take over LeGarrette Blount’s role as the power complement to Kerryon Johnson in Detroit’s backfield. Anderson averaged more than double Blount in yards per carry in 2018.
