Lions DT Mike Daniels: ‘I could play tomorrow’ if needed

Mike Daniels offered some encouraging updates on his health and practice status on Wednesday.

Daniels has yet to practice in team drills with the Lions since signing with the team nearly two weeks ago. The Pro Bowl DT told the NFL Network crew in town for training camp that he was merely being smart and not rushing back.

Stacy Dales asked the new Lions DT when he would start practicing.

“I’ve already started doing some individuals things. I’ll be able to do some striking with the guys down there when we get to Houston. It’s a process.”

“Honestly, I could play tomorrow, but it’s just a matter of being smart.”

When asked about the health of his foot, which caused him to miss half of last season in Green Bay, Daniels offered no doubt.

“I’m ready to go,” he declared.

Of course, old habits die hard. When asked about being in a different camp, Daniels reflexively referred to the Packers as “we” in noting Green Bay’s 1-5 record the last three years against Detroit.

That should go away once he gets on the field and practices with his new NFC North team.
