Lions defense ranks dead last in pass rush disruption rate

Sunday’s loss to the Oakland Raiders saw the Detroit Lions defense record one sack of QB Derek Carr. Trey Flowers bagged the sole sack on 32 Raiders dropbacks. Flowers was the only Lions credited with a QB hit in the game, too.

The anemic pass rush has been a season-long issue for the Lions defense. The terrible showing in Week 9 was bad enough to drop the Detroit defense to dead last in pass rush disruption rate.

The Lions impact the opposing passer, be it a sack, QB hit or recorded pressure, less than any other team. After eight games, the pressure rate is just 21.4 percent of opposing dropbacks.

The figure looks even work in graphic form, but thanks to the good folks at NFL Matchup on ESPN for making one anyway:

Detroit’s 14 sacks are tied with the Baltimore Ravens for 5th-worst through Week 9.
