Lions DE Mike Daniels expects to play vs. Bears

It’s easy for Lions fans to forget they have Mike Daniels on the team. We’ve barely seen the Pro Bowl defensive end acquired from the Packers scrap heap. That figures to change starting in Week 10.

Daniels’ problematic foot injury is behind him. While he’s officially listed as questionable for the game in Soldier Field against the Chicago Bears, the big DE figures to be in the lineup barring a last-minute setback.

As MLive’s Ben Raven stated on ESPN 96.1 on Friday, “Mike Daniels sure believes that Mike Daniels will play against Chicago.”

The Packers bailed on Daniels after he struggled with a foot injury in 2018 that wiped out half his season. Thus far, Daniels has played just 65 snaps in a Lions uniform — none since Week 3. He’s feeling good about the foot now.

“If it was the same foot re-aggravated, then we’d have an issue,” Daniels said via Dave Birkett of the Free Press. “But it was the other foot, and clearly, I’m back faster from that than the first one.”

The Lions can use him. With several defenders carrying injuries into the game, they can use any contribution Daniels can provide. If he’s able to recapture his Pro Bowl pass rush form, it will be a huge boon to the struggling Lions defense.
