With two days left until the Detroit Lions play the New York Giants, quarterback Matthew Stafford is still deciding what type of glove to wear on his injured throwing hand, Lions coach Jim Caldwell said Friday.
"Still working through it, what he thinks is comfortable for him," Caldwell said. "He's doing pretty well. I'm not going to talk about the logistics of what he has on and how it works and all that stuff. I'm not going to get into all that. You talk to him, he may share of some that with you. But yeah, he's doing OK. He's working through it."
Stafford has practiced with the same makeshift glove on his hand all three days this week.
The glove left four of the five fingers on Stafford's throwing hand exposed and gave him extra support on his dislocated middle finger.
In addition to the glove, Stafford had the tip of his middle finger taped.
Asked whether the gloves Stafford wore at practice were the same, Caldwell said, "He's had several on."
After injuring his finger on the final play of the first quarter of last weekend's win over the Chicago Bears, Stafford wore several gloves over the final three quarters. At one point, he had gloves on both hands.
He said this week that he'll wear "whatever's most functional that I can perform the best with." He said he might not wear a glove at all.
Forecasts for Sunday's game call for temperatures in the 50s with a 90 percent chance of rain.
"It's going to be what it's going to be," Stafford said. "I'm not a weatherman. But we'll see. When we get there, if we need to make an adjustment, we'll make an adjustment. If not, we'll just go out there and battle through it like everybody else is and try to play as well as we can."
