Lions claim former Giants RB Paul Perkins off of waivers

The Detroit Lions have reportedly claimed former New York Giants running back Paul Perkins off of waivers and released veteran RB C.J. Anderson.

Perkins was a fifth-round draft pick of the Giants out of UCLA back in 2016 and had become a starter as a rookie. Perkins fell out of favor with the coaches and then missed all of last season with a torn pec. He was released by the Giants on Monday in favor of TE Kaden Smith.

Anderson was a beast in Denver and last year with the Rams, spelling the ailing Todd Gurley during L.A.’s Super Bowl run. But he was not what the Lions had hoped averaging just 2.7 yards per rush this season.

Perkins made the Giants’ 53-man roster which was a bit of a surprise having been a draft pick f the previous front office headed by Jerry Reese. He was not active in either of the Giants’ first two games this season.

The Giants also cut tight end C.J. Conrad from their practice squad.
