The traditional Lions Christmas cake will no longer be manufactured in Brisbane following the closure of the Top Taste Bakery in the city's north.
Lions Club District Q3 cake and mint chairman Kaye Smith said supporters need not worry about missing out on their cakes this year.
"It probably won't impact greatly," Ms Smith told ABC Radio Brisbane.
"The final bake was done this year from Top Taste, so there won't be any changes at all to what the general public know of our cakes and puddings this year."
Top Taste is a subsidiary of George Weston Foods, which sold the Kedron-based business last December, according to Nine Media.
Traditional Foods, a company based in Dandenong, Victoria will now be manufacturing the cakes and puddings using the club's unchanged recipes.
"The product is just as good, if not better, than what we've had in the past, so I don't think we'll be disappointing any of our supporters out there who have always bought our products," Ms Smith said.
"In 2019 we put in just under 700,000 products into Australian homes."
Cakes for a cause
Each club will choose how the funds raised from the cakes will be spent.
"All profits that are made by the sale of our Christmas cakes go back into the community in some way, shape or form," Ms Smith said.
Two local clubs — Ashgrove/The Gap and Brisbane Inner North — will donate this year's sales to the University of Queensland's Anxiety Telehealth Project.
Lions member Peter Wilkes is involved in the project that is dedicated to servicing people over the age of 64.
"Part of the profits of Christmas cakes will go towards buying tablets for [the project]," he said.
"If they don't have a tablet, a Lions member will deliver it and show them how to use it."
As part of the project, each person will get six one-hour sessions with a psychologist via a tablet they can use from the project's loan library.
The cakes are a long-running tradition of the foundation, starting in 1965.
