Lions are named one of the Senior Bowl coaching staffs

One of the benefits of finishing near the top of the NFL draft standings is the ability to earn a spot coaching in the annual Senior Bowl. That’s just what the Detroit Lions got after the 2021 season.

The Lions will be one of the two coaching staffs in Mobile, Alabama for the 2022 Senior Bowl. Detroit was the first time in line that met the qualifications of not making the postseason and not changing either the head coach or general manager. The Lions earned the No. 2 overall pick in their first season under GM Brad Holmes and head coach Dan Campbell.

This will be the third time in the last 10 years the Lions will coach one of the sides in the Senior Bowl. Jim Schwartz led the South team in 2013 and Matt Patricia coached the North in 2020.

It’s a huge boon for the coaching staff to get to know the players and work with them in drills and game situations. The Senior Bowl annually features over 90 prospects who will be drafted.

The New York Jets will also coach in Mobile.
