Lions announce they have released RB Tra Carson from IR

The Detroit Lions announced that they have released running back Tra Carson from injured reserve.

Carson was claimed off of waivers by the Lions from the Green Bay Packers just over three weeks ago. He was active for just one game — he started Week 8 against the New York Giants — rushing 12 times for 34 yards. Not long after, he injured his hamstring and was placed on injured reserve to make room for Paul Perkins on the active roster.

Now, six days later, he is released from injured reserve and is eligible to become a free agent.

If the Lions wish to re-sign Carson, they will have to wait until three weeks after the pre-determined injury settlement the team and Carson’s agent agreed upon before his released today.

So for example, if they agreed Carson would need one week to heal, the Lions would compensate him for that week. Then, after that week, Carson is eligible to sign with another franchise. The Lions incur a penalty for releasing him with an injury settlement and must wait an additional three weeks before they are eligible to bring him back.
