Lionel Richie to star in Disney musical as singer teases 'big things in the works'

Hello? Is it a film about me you’re looking for?

Lionel Richie is set to follow in Sir Elton John, Queen and ABBA’s footsteps with a musical movie.

He has signed with Disney to produce the epic blockbuster.

The singer, whose hits include All Night Long, Dancing on the Ceiling and Hello, will co-produce the project.

It looks set to be more of a “jukebox-style musical” like ABBA’s Mamma Mia!, rather than a biopic.

Mamma Mia! grossed almost £500million, while Queen biopic Bohemian Rhapsody took £700m.

Meanwhile, Sir Elton’s Rocketman made more than £150m.

Screenwriter Pete Chiarelli, who wrote Crazy Rich Asians and The Proposal, is writing the script, according to Hollywood magazine Variety, who report it has a working title of All Night Long.

Lionel, 70, has been nominated for three Oscars for Best Original Song, winning in 1986 for Say You Say Me from the film White Nights.

Lionel also has sold 100 million records worldwide and has four Grammy Awards.

The Stuck On You star certainly left his fans excited by sharing news of the upcoming film, which is set to have a jukebox style akin to what the Mamma Mia films did with the song of Swedish band ABBA.

We're sure Lionel's British fans are just as excited by the prospect of a musical project too!
