Lionel Richie launches his own fragrance named after his biggest hit Hello

Iconic crooner Lionel Richie knows all about the sweet smell of success.

And now he is hoping to follow in the footsteps of stars including Britney Spears, Beyoncé and the Beckhams by launching his own fragrance.

The 70-year-old has named it after his biggest hit, Hello. And while some people familiar with his back catalogue may fear it being a bit cheesy, it is described as “sensual” with “rich amber and musk”.

Lionel said: “There are many similarities between songwriting and fragrance creation – the notes have to work together to tell a story. Creative people are curious. I learned so much in this process of creating my fragrance.”

Richie, who will headline at the Isle of Wight Festival next summer, makes his foray into the fragrance business after a few unlikely recent entries.

Jordan Belfort, the real-life inspiration for Leonardo DiCaprio’s character in The Wolf of Wall Street, launched a scent dubbed The Whiff of Wall Street.

And earlier this month Captain Bird’s Eye released a fragrance called Ahoy.

Riccardo Acerbi, a 56-year-old actor and seafarer, is cashing in after making waves when revealed as the brand’s new face in revamped ads last year.
