Lionel Richie Bristol gig moved to Longleat for 'logistical reasons'

Lionel Richie has announced he will perform at Longleat safari park next summer as part of his Hello tour.

The pop legend was due to play Bristol this summer, but that was pushed back to 2022 due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Longleat has been chosen as the venue for the concert on June 15 (6pm). Tickets go on general sale from May 7 at 10am, with a pre-sale precisely 24 hours earlier.

Some fans may be disappointed by the choice of venue, given the gig was billed as a "Bristol city centre" concert. While Longleat is undoubtedly a spectacular venue, it is around 29 miles from the centre of Bristol.

Promoter Senbla blames "logistical reasons" for the change, saying it "could not" hold the performance in Bristol next year.

Richie said of the concert: "I am really excited to be playing at Longleat. I know we’ll all have such an incredible night of partying together. It's a venue steeped in music history - The Rolling Stones and Elton John have both headlined Longleat and I'm honoured to be joining the esteemed list See you all next year."

The safari park describes the Hello gig as the "first in a series of outdoor concerts in the grounds of the beautiful Longleat house", suggesting more acts could be playing there next year. No further artists have yet been announced for this Live at Longleat series, however.

Over the course of his glittering career Richie, 71, has sold more than 90 million records - making him one of the world's best selling artists of all time.

With classic tracks including All Night Long and Hello his album Can't Slow Down won the Grammy for album of the year in 1985. He has won a total of four Grammys, a Golden Globe, and an Oscar award, the latter for best original song, which went to Richie's Say You, Say Me, which featured in the 1985 film White Nights.
