Lionel Richie criticized Usher and Chris Brown's joint stadium tour during a recent concert, claiming co-headlining tours are not innovative.
Richie joked that the only difference between his past tours with Earth, Wind & Fire and Usher and Brown's tour is that "we didn't go to jail."
After the crowd reacted, Richie quickly apologized for referencing Brown's past legal troubles, which include serving jail time for assaulting Rihanna in 2009.
Richie's recent performances follow several last-minute concert postponements and cancellations due to health concerns for both himself and Earth, Wind & Fire members.
Usher and Chris Brown launched their co-headlining Raymond & Brown tour in June, with dates scheduled across major U.S. cities through December.
