Lionel Messi taught Liverpool starlet Mateusz Musialowski to score wondergoal

Mateusz Musialowski has opened up on the stunning individual goal for Liverpool U18s last weekend that earned him comparisons to Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi.

The 17-year-old showed incredible close control as he darted his way past a series of players during an unbelievable run, only to finish into the top corner sending thousands on social media into raptures.

The starlet, who only arrived at the Academy in the summer from Poland, is beginning to show his sensational ability in front of goal, having scored an injury-time winner against Everton in the mini-derby recently before netting a brace in the FA Youth Cup this week.

And Musialowski says the goal against Newcastle, which he wants to repeat, was inspired by Messi and his drive to be just like the Argentina international.

"I just ran with the ball," the teenager said.

"When I see the space, I just go for it. I have seen a lot of Lionel Messi goals like that, so I try to be like him and I want to repeat it!"

Musialowski also opened up on the young Reds 6-0 victory over Sutton United in the FA Youth Cup in midweek, while explaining what it's like to be part of such an exciting young side.

"It was a great night for us," he told the club's official website.

"It was a big game playing in the FA Youth Cup and I’m so pleased for Ethan [Ennis] to get his hat-trick as well. It was my first game in the FA Youth Cup, so it was a great experience playing under the lights.

"Tyler gave me a brilliant ball for my first, so it was his goal, to be fair. I just put the ball in the net. I like scoring goals, so to get two was a really good night for me. For my second, I never stop. I wanted to get the goal and that’s what I like to do when I’m on the pitch – scoring goals.

"It’s great. I get a lot of the ball, so the staff and my teammates are helping me to play my game. So it’s really nice. I feel like I’m getting fitter and stronger now. I am working hard and want to improve."
