Lionel Messi still pondering his future amid Man City links

Lionel Messi has not held talks with any potential suitors about a transfer despite speculation over his future at Barcelona, according to reports.

Manchester City have been heavily linked with a move for the Argentinian star, who is unhappy at the Nou Camp and tried to leave last summer.

Messi's current deal expires in the summer, meaning he can speak to other clubs about a pre-contract agreement from January 1.

With the six-time Ballon d'Or winner making it perfectly clear he isn't pleased with the La Liga giants, City and Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly keeping a close eye on proceedings.

However, despite the constant noise surrounding Messi, Goal report that the 33-year-old is yet to enter discussions with any other club about a transfer.

Despite his unhappiness, Messi is still focussed on trying to help Barcelona on the field, with the Calatan club eighth in the La Liga table, with two games in hand.

Paris Saint-Germain await Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League in February and so all focus remains on climbing the domestic table.

Messi and his representatives - Jorge, his father - are keen to remain focused on Barcelona for the time being and are in no rush to decide the next important step in Messi's career.

Barca will be holding their latest round of presidential election on January 24, with power at boardroom level about to change hands, which could have an influence on Messi's decision, given his unhappiness with those currently at the helm.

Presidential candidate Jordi Farre claimed last week that Messi was willing to sign fresh terms at the Nou Camp.

"Messi wants to stay at Barca. That’s what I know,” he told Spanish radio station Onda Cero .

“His family wants to stay in Barcelona and we’re going to work for it.

"I would go as far to say that if we win the elections, Messi will renew his deal. His renewal would be incurred automatically on January 25 if I win the elections the day previous."
