Lionel Messi staying at Barcelona and Lautaro Martinez could join him, says former Inter Milan president

Former Inter Milan president Massimo Moratti believes the Italian giants have no chance of signing Lionel Messi, but says striker Lautaro Martinez could join his compatriot at Barcelona.

Messi has long been linked with a move to Inter and the Argentine attacker has a clause in his current Barca contract allowing him to walk away for free at the end of this season, fuelling renewed talk of a possible transfer to San Siro.

But Moratti told Tuttosport: "He is the dream for everyone, but he won't move from Barcelona. He is still the best of them all."

Last week, Messi talked up Argentina team-mate Martinez and with the 22-year-old Barca's top target to succeed Luis Suarez at Camp Nou in the long term, the two could link up this summer.

"It depends on his will," Moratti said. "Barcelona are making exorbitant offers and it will depend on him."

Martinez has a release clause set at €111million (£97.7m) and favours a move to Barca, although he could end up staying in Italy for another season if a deal cannot be reached in the upcoming window.
