Inter Miami faced a tough challenge against Monterrey in the first leg of the CONCACAF Champions Cup quarterfinal, with Lionel Messi sidelined due to a hamstring injury. Despite a strong first half performance, Inter Miami ultimately fell 2-1 to Monterrey.

Messi, who has been out of action for four games now, was unable to play in the match as he continues to recover from a right hamstring injury sustained on March 13. His return date remains uncertain, with Inter Miami set to face Monterrey in the second leg on April 10.

However, Monterrey capitalized on a red card shown to David Ruíz in the 65th minute, equalizing through Maximiliano Meza shortly after. Monterrey's Jorge Rodríguez then secured the win with a late goal in the 89th minute, sealing a comeback victory for the Mexican side.

Inter Miami coach Gerardo “Tata” Martino acknowledged the team's struggles in the latter stages of the match, citing fatigue and the numerical disadvantage as key factors. Despite the loss, Martino expressed optimism about Messi's recovery, emphasizing that the star player's health remains a top priority.

The match also saw Miami's Robert Taylor forced off with an injury in the 36th minute, adding to the team's woes on the night. Goalkeepers Drake Callender and Esteban Andrada made crucial saves for their respective teams, with Callender impressing with seven stops.

Inter Miami will now shift their focus to an upcoming MLS match against Colorado, aiming to bounce back from their defeat against Monterrey. As the team navigates Messi's absence and injury concerns, they will look to regroup and deliver stronger performances in the matches ahead.
