Lionel Messi ‘should have 10 more Ballons d'Ors than Cristiano Ronaldo’, says Barcelona chief

Barcelona’s sporting vice-president Javier Bordas believes Lionel Messi should have 10 more Ballons d’Or than Cristiano Ronaldo.

Messi and Ronaldo currently have five Golden Balls apiece, having dominated the award completely between 2008 and 2017.

Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric ended their duopoly by claiming the Ballon d’Or last year, but Messi is favourite to claim the prestigious prize for a sixth time on Monday night.

"Messi should have 10 more Ballons d'Or than Cristiano,” Bordas told Cadena COPE on arrival in Paris as part of the Barca delegation for the ceremony on Monday night.

“But in any case, he’s going to have at least one more…”

Messi is accompanied in Paris by wife Antonela and sons Thiago and Mateo.

Bordas is also present in the party, along with Barca president Josep Maria Bartomeu, players Marc-Andre ter Stegen, Antoine Griezmann and Frenkie de Jong and sporting director Eric Abidal.
