Lionel Messi set to miss Barcelona trip to Osasuna on Saturday

Lionel Messi did not train with his team-mates on Thursday and is likely to miss Barcelona's game away to Osasuna in La Liga this weekend.

The Argentine attacker picked up a calf injury in his very first session after returning later in pre-season due to his participation in the Copa America.

Messi missed Barca's 1-0 loss away to Athletic Club on the opening weekend and also sat out last Sunday's 5-2 win at home to Betis.

He had been expected to return for the game against Osasuna, but trained alone again on Thursday and is now set to sit out the trip to Pamplona as well.

Catalan station RAC1 claimed on Wednesday that the five-time Ballon d'Or winner would be out for the next month, but Barca have dismissed that report.

With an international break to follow the weekend games, Messi will have two more weeks to be fit for Barcelona's fourth league match of the season: at home to Valencia on September 14.
